Jernej Zadravec injury update
I heard the doctors removed your spleen, what happened?
I was boosting our pool transfer like every other day, when I got caught up in a wind gust, which pointed my front end straight to the ground. The impact slammed me on my bars what appealed to splatter my spleen, leaving me with internal bleedings. So I was driven to the hospital. They did some x-rays and ultrasound examination. They confirmed my worst fears and I was rushed to surgery.
How are you feeling right now?
Pretty good. It's a week since the surgery and I'm pretty much functionable. I can eat all the normal food, walk around, I feel almost no pain and the stitches are going out on tuesday.
You spent a week at the hospital, what is your expirience with that?
The first days after the surgery were a little painfull and uncomfortable because of all the stuff I was wired to. Also having a plastic tube in my ass for 5 minutes to regulate the gas levels in me was not really fun. Otherwise I was bored. Hospitals have a really bad vibe for me and I hate every moment staying there.
What were you doing to kill time?
Pretty much nothing interesting. Reading mags, mobile facebook all day long, music, cheap PSP games which weren't really entertaining. I'm also very grateful to my friends which were visiting me every single day.
Your comments on hospital food?
Don't mention it. Breakfasts were okay, but lunches were disgusting. But ok maybe I'm to picky about food haha.
What about your recovery?
Well my priority is returning to bike riding. I have to practice my lung capacity, gain my pounds bad I lost this week, also my stomach was cut open so I have to strengthen it's diaphragm back to normal state. I'll probably ride again in late winter or spring.
So what are your plans now?
Just chill strictly at home for a week or so. So everything heals up for good, do all the mentioned recovery stuff, hopefully make it to Pannonian Challenge and just chill with friends who cared for me so much when shit hit the fan. Thanks guys you are amazing :)
Wish Jernej all the best on his road to recovery. We do.
